Drug trafficking: Police seize $2.3 million from a house in Anaheim

Published On: 05-23-2016 in Category: drug trafficking

The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) seized $2.5 million cash from an Anaheim home during a drug raid in May 2016. The money was linked to a drug trafficking organization with its roots in Mexico.

The raid was the result of a two-year joint investigation by the FBI, Internal Revenue Services (IRS) and local law enforcement agencies. On May 5, 2016, the investigators received an information about a residence, just about a block from Disneyland, which was being used as a primary location to stash narcotics. The money was found in the house during the search. No one was arrested, the police said.

FBI spokeswoman Laura Eimiller said, “A break in the case came a week ago during a traffic stop of a woman on the Santa Ana (5) Freeway. Information gleaned from questioning of that suspect led to a search warrant on the stash house in the 1200 block of West Katella Avenue.”

Houses like the one raided by the police in Anaheim serve as the perfect stash house to store drugs that arrive in the U.S. and the money collected from the sales of such drugs.

Techniques like wiretaps and surveillance were used to identify the prime locations where the drug trafficking organization carried out its illegal narcotics and money laundering activities. Previously, the officials had also seized illegal money and narcotics as a part of the investigation.

The FBI said, “Numerous bank accounts in the United States and internationally have been identified during this investigation and financial analysis of these accounts is ongoing.” The FBI has urged people to inform about any illegal or suspicious activity taking place in their vicinity.

Anaheim’s drug trafficking ring has roots in Mexico

According to the FBI and the local enforcement agencies,  the drug trafficking ring in Anaheim has its roots in Culiacan, Sinaloa, Mexico. Guillermo Gonzalez Calderoni, former Mexican Federal Police Commander, said, “Sinaloa is the cradle of the biggest traffickers Mexico has ever known.” Moreover, many drug lords have made Culiacan, Sinaloa’s state capital, their hometown.

Sinaloa Cartel is one of the most active drug cartels involved in trafficking illegal drugs across the U.S. In fact, it is the most powerful drug trafficking organization in the world. The two-year investigation led the FBI to infer that the drug trafficking organization in Anaheim has links with the Sinaloa Cartel.

Way to a drug-free future

With an increasing number of drug trafficking cases going on in the U.S., an increasing number of people are getting an easy access to these drugs. Any signs of suspicious activities should be reported to the federal or local officials. Moreover, friends and family should be alerted if they find their loved ones getting inclined to abuse any form of drug.
